Mexico's Natural Treasures: Help Us Protect Them!
From cleaning Veracruz's beaches and promoting recycling to reforesting the Pico de Orizaba and building an underwater museum, Kayám is dedicated to preserving Veracruz's natural beauty.
Our mission is to safeguard marine ecosystems and their biodiversity, fostering a culture of care, respect, and responsibility towards our environment and natural resources. We achieve this by implementing impactful actions and sustainable measures that champion the flourishing of these vital ecosystems for generations to come.

Kayám began with a simple belief: that the people of Veracruz could come together to protect the natural world we all share. We're a non-profit organization driven by a group of passionate Veracruzanos who saw the threats to our ecosystems and decided to take action. Our name, "Kayám," comes from the Totonac civilization, the indigenous people of Veracruz, and means "Turtle." Like the turtle, we are committed to protecting our environment, one step at a time.
Imagine vibrant life returning to a struggling ocean floor. Our artificial reef project breathes life back into depleted ecosystems, offering sanctuary to countless marine species. By providing a new home, we relieve the immense pressure on natural coral reefs, allowing them to recover and flourish. Schools of fish, once scarce, now thrive, finding refuge and sustenance within the intricate structures. We're even turning an environmental threat – the invasive 'orange cup coral' – into a building block for this new underwater haven, transforming destruction into thriving life. Divers explore a vibrant, growing world, witnessing firsthand the power of restoration. This isn't just about building reefs; it's about rebuilding hope for our oceans and the communities that depend on them.
Kayám envisions a vibrant future for the coastal communities of Veracruz and its precious marine ecosystem. By creating the Kayám Underwater Museum, inspired by the pre-Columbian Totonac city of El Tajín, we're building more than just an artificial reef. We're creating a beacon of hope, a national symbol of ecological conservation, and a sustainable tourism destination. Our vision is to transform this underwater space into a thriving haven for marine life, restoring biodiversity and offering new opportunities for the local communities who depend on it. Your support will help us build this lasting legacy, empowering both nature and the people of Veracruz to flourish.
